F.A.Q.

Q. Why use Potters Kitchens and Bathroom Ltd?

A. One of the most frequently asked questions of us, is why use an independent supplier rather than a large chain such as Magnet/MFI etc. The reasons are simple: Firstly we operate without huge showrooms, sales staff on commission and we buy direct from the manufacturer cutting out the middle man and we can offer you a personal service.

With us you have a name not just a number!

Q. How Long Have You Been in the Business?

A. Over 20 years of kitchen & bathroom design & installation experience and high class carpentry & joinery experience as Melvyn trained as a carpenter & joiner with a prestigious company in london Ashby & Horner working in such places as Buckingham Palace, Houses of Parliament,Tower of London, Stock exchange, Bank of England, Mansion house carrying out joinery & refurbishment projects and at the time of leaving them had been a Foreman Carpenter & joiner.

Melvyn then went self employed & initially set up a small building company carrying out extensions & refurbishment works but then decided to concentrate on kitchens, bedrooms & bathrooms as felt there was a lack of small suppliers offering a high quality personal service.

Melvyn also went on to complete a HND in building technology and gained associate level in Carpentry & joinery plus many other trade qualifications and had won many awards during his training in London.

Q. Who do you use for kitchen installations?

A. We have five teams of specialist fitters who are qualified in all aspects of kitchen fitting, plumbing, tiling, electrics and bespoke joinery plus we have other nominated specialist  local tradesmen we use for some work including our electrical contractor Focus Electrical run by Darren walker who is highly experienced and issues a Part P certificate on completion of works. Melvyn oversees & project manages all installation works day by day and is the main point of contact you need which makes it easy when sometimes dealing with very large involved projects that we often carry out that involve all trades including building alterations etc.

We also have a local architect we use if plans & planning permission is required plus building regulations we can deal with that too.

Q. Do You Provide a Warranty?

A. There are specific manufacturer warranties for all products we supply and once installed you would generally contact them if any problems or if unsure you can contact us and we will deal with on your behalf. Details of these can be supplied during the consultation process, we also guarantee our workmanship for 2 years.

Q. Normally independent suppliers are more expensive - is this the case?

A. No not generally as we can normally be very competitive against the big companies as our overheads are lower and our installation costs are lower and most customers find that they will get far better quality and value for money, we had a customer recently that came in with a quote from B&Q and we ended up supplying a German rigid kitchen to them supplied and fitted for only a couple of hundred pounds more, because there fitting charges were very high compared to ours so the cost balanced out.

Q. How do your units and worktops compare quality wise to mainstream suppliers?

A. We use quality products sourced directly from the manufacturer. Kitchen units are all 18mm thick and are supplied rigid colour matched with solid backs and Blum hinges. Drawer units have metal drawer runners as standard and solid bottoms. Some ranges are 16mm thick with 3mm PP edging with a higher density board used so does not mean they are weaker than an 18mm carcass.

We can supply other budget ranges that are self assembly in 18mm & 15mm thickness carcasses, some are colour matched and some are white with replacement end panels, we also have another budget rigid range now available at very competitive prices and we can supply complete kitchens within a week from these ranges.

Q. Can I see examples of your work?

A. To view samples of our kitchens (click here), bathrooms (click here) and bedrooms (click here) to compare the quality first hand, also call into our showroom, we also have a portfolio of works in our showroom and we can always arrange for you to view one of our recent installations locally.

Q. How do I go about narrowing down the selection process (i.e., cabinets, worktops, etc.) with the hundreds of options out there?

A. There are many things to think about when trying to narrow down your options from the many product choices available. The best way to start the process is to determine a budget that you are comfortable with. You also want to decide on the "overall look" that you are going for. Determining the style up front, whether it be country, contemporary, etc. will also greatly help in the selection process. We also have samples and catalogues available for you to make your selections from, or you can visit our showroom for inspiration.

Q. Once the contract has been signed, when does installation generally begin?

A. Installation start time is heavily dependant on the production schedule at the time the contract is signed and deposit paid. The type of cabinets or fittings ordered typically determine the start time for the project. Basic ranges are usually available within a matter of days, however, custom ranges can take anything from 3-6 weeks, we obviously book our works 6-8 weeks ahead but sometimes this is extended at busy periods.
